YCCPCS has leveraged funds from grants including The California Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG), Adult Education Block Grant (AEBG) as well as YCCPCS funds to create a welding facility that provides welding courses of instruction to both high school students and adults.

Students are learning real life welding career skills in the areas of:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding
  • Flux Core Arc Welding
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
  • Oxyfuel Welding and Cutting
  • Blueprint and Welding Symbol reading

Including, but not limited to Workforce “Soft Skills” of:

  • How to be a professional
  • Material Prep and fit-up
  • Properties of metals and how they are affected when welded
  • Reading and understanding the different Welding Codes and how to weld to those codes
  • Basic pipe fitting and pipe welding
  • Understanding measurements and tolerances
  • Weld and machine troubleshooting and repair
  • Welding repairs
  • Weld consumable classification
  • How to fabricate
  • Welding industry safety
  • Understanding Industry Terms
