Course Content
YCCPCS has leveraged funds from grants including The California Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG), Adult Education Block Grant (AEBG) as well as YCCPCS funds to create a welding facility that provides welding courses of instruction to both high school students and adults.
Students are learning real life welding career skills in the areas of:
- Shielded Metal Arc Welding
- Gas Metal Arc Welding
- Flux Core Arc Welding
- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
- Oxyfuel Welding and Cutting
- Blueprint and Welding Symbol reading
Including, but not limited to Workforce “Soft Skills” of:
- How to be a professional
- Material Prep and fit-up
- Properties of metals and how they are affected when welded
- Reading and understanding the different Welding Codes and how to weld to those codes
- Basic pipe fitting and pipe welding
- Understanding measurements and tolerances
- Weld and machine troubleshooting and repair
- Welding repairs
- Weld consumable classification
- How to fabricate
- Welding industry safety
- Understanding Industry Terms
