Programs Offered
YCCPCS has two different Independent Study Programs:
Traditional Independent Study (IS) Program for K-12 and “Cohort Independent Study Program” for 9-12 grade.
Both programs have the goal of helping every student work toward earning a high school diploma. The high school program is complete with 220 units of high school credits, including Career Technical Education (CTE), community service, and concurrent enrollment opportunities.
Cohort Independent Study Program
The Cohort Independent Study Program (Cohort IS) allows students to set more of a “college” like schedule for themselves under the direction of their Supervising Teacher. This is designed for a student who wants something different than the traditional educational setting, but does not want to be completely independent from an educational setting.
The Cohort IS program is suggested for our students who are moving over from attending any All-Day school program. This program provides more support than Traditional IS, but is not the commitment to being in a classroom every day from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Traditional Independent Study Program
The Traditional Independent Study (IS) Program is designed to fulfill the educational needs of students who want a meaningful, career-oriented education with an individualized approach. Parents/Guardians of Traditional IS students are considered to be the student’s primary teacher and are encouraged to participate in their child’s meetings with their IS Supervising Teacher; this will assist parents in the instructional time they spend with their child at home.
To be successful in either of our programs, it is recommended students:
- Have a quiet place at home where they can work on school work
- Use their Google Suite tools including but not limited to using the google calendar to make sure they know their schedule as they broaden their lives with Concurrent Enrollment at a community college, work part-time, or volunteer in the community
- Have their other educational tools such as an organized binder, calculator, and pens/pencils as needed.
